October 12th to 16th 2009.
The number of participants is limited to ten.
Course lasting 35 hours. Cost : € 350
This course deals with a historical approach of the lace techniques, describing the characteristics of each category of lace.
1 - The embroidered Lace :
Filet, buratto, needle weaving, cut-thread

2- Needle lace, particularly :
Venetian lace, Point de France, Alençon-Argentan, netting gauze stich, 19th century imitations
3- Bobbin Lace :
Continuous thread lace, added thread lace, lace worked in separate pieces and sewn together
The study consists of observing antique lace with the naked eye, with a thread counter and with a stereoscope. An iconographical file, well documented, of the items of lace to be studied, at different scales, constitutes a working tool and will be given to each participant. The teaching method is based on the analysis of high resolution digital images and on the concrete study of pieces of lace.
