Who would have thought that in 2009 men would wear ruffs again? These extravagant collars are shown at their best, notably by Jean Digonnet (on the left), delegate for the SEMA (Society for the encouragement of artistic professions) in Haute Loire, the Auvergne and the Massif Central ,in the company of Pierre Astor, mayor and general councillor, seen here on the occasion of the inauguration of the temporary exhibition “Ruffs – Extravagant Collars”, presently to be seen in the museum.

An important crowd followed the guided tour led by Bruno Ythier, head of the Museum, with commentaries from Youlie Spantidaki, head of the Archeological Textile Center in Athens, and Isabelle Lebreton, stage costume-maker, who contributed to this exhibition.

The buffet glorified the “strawberry”, which in French is the name of the Ruff , but this time as a fruit, as a cocktail, in cups or as a sweet (with the partnership of the Haribo Sweet Museum) in honour of the local strawberry called “Red Pearl of the Velay”, which wer given by Michel Peyrard.

Take the opportunity to stroll through this marvellous universe where you will find antique lace which were used to make ruffs, a painting from Miereveld, on loan from the “Beaux-Arts” museum in Lyons, a video on the subject of the ironing of the ruffs, which was filmed at the “Comédie Française”, costumes on loan from the “National Centre for Stage Costumes” in Moulins, diverse games as well as contemporary original collars made especially for the occasion.

Exhibition to be seen in the Museum until December 30th 2009.
Every day from 14:00 hours to 18:00 hours, and up to 19:00 hours in July and August.
